Warhammer Underworlds Buying Guide 2026

underworlds

Welcome to Warhammer Underworlds Buying Guide 2026 with Sector Mercatura. This guide is for newcomers joining our Warhammer Underworlds Spitewood Season 2026. Within these halls you will discover the Embergard core set and the warbands that build upon it, each offering a distinct path into battle. Use this guide to orient yourself, choose your warband, and step confidently into the season.

For more information on our seasonal events, visit their respective page. At Sector Mercatura, each Underworlds season brings its own format and flavor, from Rivals format in Q2 2026 to planned Nemesis in Q3 and these event pages will help you track the latest updates and schedules.

There are two primary formats of Warhammer Underworlds played at Sector Mercatura: Rivals and Nemesis.

In Rivals, each warband chooses a Rivals deck to play with but the contents of that deck are fixed and cannot be changed. This keeps games balanced and straightforward, while still giving players freedom to select the deck that suits their style.

Nemesis lets each warband combine two different Rivals decks into one, creating a customized deck. Forsaken cards are banned, and only one Restricted card may be included. This format adds variety and deeper strategy, giving players more freedom than Rivals while still keeping the structure clear and accessible.

For more documentation on Organized Play, visit Warhammer Downloads page.

The current season of Warhammer Underworlds is Spitewood. Only warbands released within this season are supported for Organized Play while those from previous seasons are no longer eligible.

To play Underworlds, you will need the following essentials:

  1. Warscroll & Fighter Datacards
  2. Underworlds dice & tokens

For skirmishes that take place within Sector boundaries, dice and game boards are generally provided. Players need only bring their Warband and deck. To ensure the battlefield is prepared, contact the Innkeeper to arrange for these provisions.

Stepping into Warhammer Underworlds can feel overwhelming with so many boxes, warbands and formats available. This guide is designed to simplify the choices, showing which products are best for newcomers, which expansions add competitive depth, and how collectors can expand their roster.

1) If you are totally new and just checking out the game:

Embergard Starter Box
This box contains everything you need and offers strong value, as it includes two warbands and four Rivals decks. It provides a solid foundation for play right away and sets firm ground for expanding your collection in the future.

2) If you prefer to tailor your Warband with precision:

Single warbands and individual Rivals decks can be purchased by referring to the lists above and selecting their respective products. This option gives players flexibility to expand collections gradually but it may not always be cost‑effective compared to bundled boxes that include multiple warbands and decks.

Note that play accessories such as dice and gameboards are not included in single purchases, so visiting Sector Mercatura to play ensures you have access to the full setup.

3) If you are a bargain hunter looking for maximum bang for your buck:

Embergard Starter Box: Two warbands, four Rivals decks, plus a game board and dice, making it a complete entry point that’s hard to pass up.

Spitewood Expansion Box: A solid value proposition with two warbands and two Rivals decks

Warbands Combo Box: These are excellent value, consisting of four warbands in a single package at a good price, making them one of the most efficient ways to expand your collection. As of March 2026, there are eight such products available, each themed around a Grand Alliance or faction grouping. They are listed below:

Heroes and Hunters
Despoilers and Daemons
Revenants of the Realms
Brutes and Bandits
Gitz and Goliaths
Morbid Minions
Seekers in Shadow
Reavers of Ruin

New players are encouraged to consult the Overseer before fielding any warbands. This helps avoid confusion and ensures players make the right purchase for Organized Play.
